What Does It Take to Be a Successful Music Artist in 2022
I get a chance to speak with record labels daily when I'm doing interviews and giving tips on marketing. Many artists ask me how they can get signed to a major label now. I want to say that you don't need a record label if you don't have a substantial music catalog, social media following, or presence on any other major media outlet. You should focus on those things first. Get your following up, and collaborate with other artists. Use your budget to pay for features from artists more popular than you. Use Facebook and Instagram ads to build your music playlists etc. Do as much as possible on your own. Once you exhaust all of those avenues you may be attractive to a record label.
So to answer the biggest question I get, how do I get signed to a major label in 2022?
- Get your social media following up. That means posting and communicating with your fans daily and building a solid relationship.
- Get on as many playlists as you can. If you can't, create your own playlists and promote them using Facebook and Instagram ads.
- Post music videos on youtube and promote them using youtube ads
- Get your music on Sirius radio by contacting radio promoters and do your research. You can make a lot of money from digital radio.
- Get on popular blogs using a publicist. Now publicists can be expensive, costing as much as $3,500 for 3 months of work, but if they place you on some great blogs, it will be worth it because you can use those links forever.
- Save your money, and plan on spending at least $1000-$2,000 per month on your career if you really want to do it. That means getting a side gig or living without some things for a while. Save at least 10k and use that to promote your music with ads on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube.
These tips will definitely get some investors or labels interested if you also have good music.
